Chamber music is one of the most revealing tests of a domestic audio system. A string quartet, piano trio or small wind ensemble gives each performer an exposed musical role, leaving fewer dense textures to disguise changes in tone and position. If a room introduces strong reflections or uneven bass, the effect can be surprisingly obvious.

If the tone becomes noticeably harder at the normal seat, reflected energy may be contributing to the problem.
